| ISSUE: |
Unable to download SonicLink
data because of no input or low input level.
|
|
DESCRIPTION:
|
The input
level indicator does not go above minimum.
|
Error message - "No signal
was detected before timeout."
|
The screen
reads "Waiting for signal" for longer than 45
seconds.
|
| SOLUTION: |
First, check your microphone
settings to make sure that the input level for the recording
microphone is set to an appropriate level. Usually, up
to 75% of maximum is acceptable although certain systems
require the volume to be set higher.
It is important to select the
microphone volume in RECORDING volume - not in PLAYBACK
volume (Under 'Settings' choose 'Options' then 'Properties'
then 'Recording").
Next, be sure that the microphone
is connected to the correct port (jack) on your computer.
When you attempt to transfer data, hold
the monitor (watch) very close to the microphone.
If you are still getting low input levels you should
use the AMPLIFICATION feature in PC Coach.
To raise the microphone amplification:
IN PC Coach LIGHT: from the FILE menu choose DOWNLOAD
> ADVANCED, and click AMPLIFICATION. In the amplification
field enter a number up to 10. Start at an amplification
of 4 or 5 and try SonicLink transfer again. Use trial
and error to determine the correct amplification for optimum
input.
IN PC Coach ELITE: from the FILE menu choose DOWNLOAD
> SONICLINK OPTIONS, and click AMPLIFY MICROPHONE.
In the amplification field enter a number up to 10. Start
at an amplification of 4 or 5 and try SonicLink transfer
again. Use trial and error to determine the correct amplification
for optimum input.
If raising the amplification
setting does not help, use Advanced Volume Controls to
set your microphone boost. Finding this control varies
in different Windows versions. Start by double clicking
on the small loud speaker icon on your desktop taskbar.
This opens up your master volume / play control. Select
Options / Properties / Recording and click 'okay'. Then
pick Options and make sure 'Advanced Properties' is selected
- if not, select it. Then click on the Advanced button
in the microphone column.
In Windows 98 Advanced Controls,
make sure there is a check mark in the box next to '20db
setting'; in Windows ME Advanced Controls, make sure there
is a check mark in the box next to 'Microphone Boost';
in Windows NT Advanced Controls, make sure there is a
check mark in the box next to 'Mic Boost (20db)'.
If it still fails, there's a
good chance you need a different microphone. We sell a
SonicLink certified microphone that has been specifically
tested to work with PC Coach and the SonicLink feature.
To purchase our microphone visit our online store. We
also recommend the Sony ECM-T6 and the Jensen JMP-12 microphones.

| ISSUE: |
Transferring SonicLink Data
caused a fatal blue-screen error or hard crash.
|
|
DESCRIPTION:
|
The computer
displays a blue screen with a fatal error message.
|
The computer locks-up forcing
you to reboot.
|
| SOLUTION: |
If you ever receive a fatal blue-screen
Windows error or experience a computer hard crash while
attempting a SonicLink data-transfer, PC Coach will automatically
switch to the 'Alternate' SonicLink downloading method
the next time PC Coach is launched. Switching to the alternate
method should solve any issues that caused the fatal blue-screen
error or computer hard crash. Next time you attempt to
download you will see a new screen called 'Hardware Not
Responding'; please read the instructions on this screen
so you understand how the Alternate Method will work.
|
|
| ISSUE: |
PC Coach forces use of the
"Alternate Method" for transferring data.
|
|
DESCRIPTION:
|
When
transferring data the screen reads "Hardware Not
Responding" and explains the use of the "Alternate
Method" of downloading.
|
| SOLUTION: |
First of all, please be aware
that the software switched you to the Alternate Method
as a precaution - most likely you received a fatal blue-screen
Windows error or experienced a computer hard crash while
attempting your last SonicLink data-transfer. The Alternate
Method will prevent that from happening again. If you
want to try the Normal Method again, you can revert back
to it by choosing File/Download/Use Normal SonicLink Method
from your top tool bar.

|
| ISSUE: |
Can not transfer data
because the program does not receive the data.
|
|
DESCRIPTION:
|
Error
message - "Incorrect Data Was Received"
|
| SOLUTION: |
Incorrect Data can be as simple
as excessive background noise (music, voices, the telephone
ringing, banging the desk your computer is on
) -
basically, anything other than SonicLink data can be received
as incorrect data into your microphone.
First, eliminate those factors
that could cause this and attempt your download again.
If you have Win XP, check for
an updated driver for your particular Soundcard. You can
do this from your control panel / sounds and audio devices
/ hardware. Select your Soundcard or audio equipment here.
Select Drivers and then update driver. If a newer driver
is available, install it and try the transfer again.
If you are still not successful,
it is possible that one of your Playback devices is conflicting
with PC Coach's SonicLink data-transfer method. If you
have the Microphone selected as a playback device it can
cause SonicLink to fail. Check to see if the microphone
is selected in playback - make sure there is a check mark
in the mute box.
Try to transfer SonicLink data
again.
If this transfer attempt was
still not successful please mute all of your playback
devices. (You can mute all by double-clicking on the small
speaker icon, which usually appears opposite the Start
button on the Taskbar, and checking MUTE.) Also, many
external speakers have a volume dial directly on the speaker.
If this is the case with your system, please be sure that
the speakers are turned to the off position.

| ISSUE: |
Downloaded SonicLink data
appears on the wrong date on the PC Coach calendar.
|
|
DESCRIPTION:
|
When
you transfer data to a particular day on the PC Coach
calendar, the SonicLink data is placed on a different
day.
|
| SOLUTION: |
Check the date on your watch
- most likely the date is incorrect and therefore the
file date when you download will be incorrect. Fix the
date in the watch before you perform your next workout
and next time you download you should be okay. For the
workouts that are already saved on the incorrect date
on your calendar, you can move them to the correct date
by cutting and pasting to a different day or by clicking
and dragging to the correct day.

|
| ISSUE: |
How and why should SonicLink
data be attached to a workout in PC Coach?
|
|
DESCRIPTION:
|
When you
download SonicLink Data and choose 'Save' there are a
few different choices - is there a benefit to attaching
data to a workout?
|
| SOLUTION: |
Yes, in attaching it to a workout
- whether previously scheduled or not - you have the ability
to enter additional details to the software: total distance,
lap/interval distance, Lognotes
In doing this you
will also be able to benefit from the Report Editor function
in PC Coach Light and PC Coach Elite. Once you start to
retain a history in PC Coach you can use the Report Editor
to track trends in your training and see your progress
in a graphical format.

Data From Previously Stored Workouts
Doesn't Transfer
|
|
DESCRIPTION:
|
The Polar
S410 or S510 only transfers data from the last workout
and not previously stored workouts (F1-F5 on the monitor).
|
| SOLUTION: |
The Polar S410 and S510 monitors were
designed to transfer data from your most recently completed
workout. These models store comprehensive data for the
last workout you've completed and summary files for previous
workouts. Summary files can not be downloaded.
Files F1 through F5 are summary files
in the Polar S410 and S510. You can retrieve a few bits
of information from files F1-F5 and manually enter the
data into PC Coach Light or PC Coach Elite, but they are
not downloadable files once they 'move out of' F6.
If you have a workout stored in your
S410 or S510 that you would like to download to PC Coach,
please make sure you download before you start your next
workout!

| ISSUE: |
Can't upload from computer to monitor
using SonicLink
|
|
DESCRIPTION:
|
Data does
not successfully transfer from computer to HRM.
|
| SOLUTION: |
If your monitor consistently reads
"FAILED" when you attempt to uplink data or
if it never achieves 100% uplink:
1. Confirm that your speakers are properly connected to
your PC.
2. Confirm that your speakers are turned on and are not
muted in Microsoft Windows Playback control (accessed
by clicking the small speaker icon on your Windows taskbar).
3. Try increasing the volume to get a stronger uplink
signal.
4. Please note that some larger speakers have a particular
area where the sound is more concentrated, try to hold
the monitor close to that area during uplink.
If you attempt steps 1-4 but still are not able to uplink
successfully, you may be experiencing a conflict with
magnetic fields in the PC environment. To remedy, try
the following:
1. DO NOT wear your chest strap transmitter while uplinking.
2. Position the speakers as far as possible from other
computer components (other speakers, the computer monitor,
the CPU etc.).
