How to Get Started

  1. If you are upgrading from a previous version of PC Coach, back up your PC Coach data. To backup your data, copy your PC Coach user to a backup device (such as a floppy disk or zip drive). Your PC Coach user folder is located in the PC Coach directory and has the same name as your PC Coach login.

  2. If you are going to be using a Polar S610, S710, S610i, S720i, or S810 HRM, install the Polar Precision Performance software. If you have not already done so, install the Polar PPP software that was shipped with your HRM. It installs drivers that will be needed for IR communication. After installing the PPP software, connect the IR interface (if you are using one) to your computer. We recommend that you start the PPP software to verify that your HRM and computer are communicating successfully. Then close the PPP software.

  3. Install PC Coach 3.6

  4. Start PC Coach.
  5. Launch the Data Transfer Center by clicking on the left PC Coach button panel to set up your heart rate monitor.

  6. Set up your default heart rate monitor.

    1) On the Data Center Options screen, click the Manage Data Sources button.

    2) Choose your heart rate monitor and click "Add to My List" or "Edit Settings."

    3) If you are using the IR interface, Indicate which type of connection you are using: USB or serial. Click OK.

  7. Bringing existing .HRM files into PC Coach - This section only applies to S610/S710/S720i/S810 monitor users that have been downloading data into the Polar PPP software and now wish to bring their workout data into PC Coach.

If you have downloaded any workout data using the Polar Precision Performance Softwar prior to today, you can bring that workout data into PC Coach now. There are two steps to this process:
      a) Convert existing HRM links into a local copy. This will convert .HRM files that had been previously linked to PC Coach workouts into local copies accessible by PC Coach.
        1) On the Data Center Options screen, click the Manage Data Sources button.

    2) Choose Polar HRM File and click "Edit Settings."

    3) Click the Convert button. If there is no Convert button, it simply means that you have not previously linked any .HRM files to PC Coach workouts; you may skip to step b).

      b) Import existing HRM files. This will import any .HRM files you've previously created (but not linked to workouts in PC Coach). The imported files will appear as "Imported Data" on the PC Coach calendar.
        1) On the Data Center Options screen, click the Manage Data Sources button.

    2) Choose Polar HRM File and click "Edit Settings."

    3) Click the Import button.

    4) Click the Set or Change Path button and browse for the location of the downloaded Polar HRM files. (For example: C:\Program Files\Polar Precision Performance\*User_Name\2003\.)

    5) Select any one of the files in the directory, click Open.

    6) Click OK.

    7) Your data files from that directory are imported into PC Coach. If you used the Polar Precision Performance Software in 2001 or 2002, you will need to repeat steps (i) thru (vii) for those years as well.
