Enhanced support for
RCS (Remote Coaching Service)
Now, when you use the RCS feature send workouts to another
PC Coach user, you can have your system automatically email
the file. In addition, you can specify a personal record,
or report be sent along with workouts to the remote user.
Read more about how to use the new RCS Features in the RCS
Enhancements section below.
Improved Printing Options
When printing your heart rate graph, we've added an option
to eliminate the color bands behind the graph. This can
save you a lot of ink in your print cartridge.
If you wish to activate this option,
add the following line to your user.ini file (the user.ini
file is a text file located in your user folder. You can
edit the user.ini file with Wordpad).
GraphPrintColorBG=F
Other Minor bug fixes
- Time in Zone Pie chart - this chart would sometimes fail
to count sample landing precisely on the threshold between
heart rate zones.
- Lap times - were sometimes not brought into workouts correctly
from .hrm files, especially for Polar S610, S710, S720.

PC Coach 3.7
This article assumes you are familiar
with the Remote Coaching Service. If you want to learn more
about RCS, click
here.
PC Coach version 3.7 adds the following
features related to RCS (Remote Coaching Service):
Option for Automatic
Email
Ability for Coach to send Report Definitions
(individually or all)
Ability for Coach to send Personal Records
(individually or all)
Ability for Coach to send Heart Rate Zones
Workout Guides go along with Workouts
Customized Workout Icon goes with the workout.
One bug to note is also described at
the end of this document.
Option for
Automatic Email (on mailbox click, email with attachment
is prepared).
Now, when you click on the RCS button
(mailbox) you see the familiar dialog allowing you to select
the date range to be sent. In addition there is a checkbox
for 'Send email now'. If you check this box and click Ok,
the program will first determine if your computer's operating
system allows us to prepare the email automatically. If
this automatic email option is not supported, the familiar
message comes up that the .rcs file in C:\Outbox. Currently,
this option is available on Windows XP and NT systems, but
the Win 98 operating system does not support this option.
If the auto-email feature is available
on your system, you are prompted the first time for the
email address of the recipient ( your client or your coach).
You enter this email address the first time you use RCS,
and it will remember it from then on. Next, an email window
pops up with the address of the recipient already entered,
the subject entered, and the RCS file already attached.
You can just click 'Send', or you can type a note first
that will be the body of the email.
Ability for Coach to send Report
Definitions (individually or all).
Scholastic and Professional versions
now allow you to send a report definition to your client.
A coach can select to send all reports in the system, or
choose to send them one by one. Note that only the reports
that are in the current user's space will be sent.
To send all reports (this is an option
in Scholastic and Professional versions), after clicking
the mailbox, check the box for 'Send Report Definitions'.
Continue with sending the workouts, and the reports will
be sent in the .rcs file as well.
To send one report, open the report and
choose: File-Add to RCS Send List. Next time you send an
RCS file (containing workouts) that report definition will
go along. You do not need to click the 'Send Reports' checkbox
(which sends all reports) in order for that one to be sent.
Note: Although it would not usually be
done, an athlete can send a report he has created to his
coach by using this same method. The client should open
the report and choose: File-Add to RCS Send List. Next time
they send an RCS file (containing workouts) that report
definition will go along.
Ability for Coach to send Personal
Records (individually or all).
Scholastic and Professional versions
now allow you to send a Personal Record to your client.
You can select to send all the PRECs, or send just one.
Note that only the PRECs that are in the current user's
space will be sent.
To send all Personal Records(this is
an option in Scholastic and Professional versions), after
clicking the mailbox, check the box for 'Send Personal Records.
Continue on with the sending process.
To send one PREC, open it in the Personal
Records Editor. Choose File-Add to RCS Send List. Next time
you send an RCS file (containing workouts) that Personal
Record will go along. You do not need to click the 'Send
Personal Records' checkbox (which sends all PRECs) in order
for that one to be sent.
Note: An athlete can send a personal
record to his coach by using this method. The client should
open the personal record to be sent inside the Personal
Records Editor. Choose File-Add to RCS Send List. Next time
they send an RCS file (containing workouts) that Personal
Record will go along.
Ability for Coach
to send Heart Rate Zones.
Scholastic and Professional versions
now allow coaches and trainers to send heart rate zones
to their clients. The heart rate zones that are defined
for the current user will be sent. The thresholds that define
a workout's intensity based on number of minutes in a given
zone are also sent. This allows the coach and client to
see the same pie charts and zone bands.
To send heart rate zones, after clicking
the mailbox, check the box for 'Send Heart Rate Zones'.
Continue on with the sending process.
Workout Guides go along with Workouts.
You do not need to do anything to make
this happen. Workout guides are not included anytime a workout
is sent via RCS.
Customized selection of the Workout
Icon goes with the workout.
If you have scheduled a workout and chosen
a different icon for it than the default, this icon will
appear at the client's end when you send the workout via
RCS. You do not need to do anything special to make this
happen.
One bug to note:
When you receive an RCS file attachment to an email, and
open it, this starts PC Coach and logs you in to a user,
and brings in the workouts to your calendar. Later, when
you go back to your email program, you may see a notice
a message that says, "changes have not been saved"
in that .rcs file. You can disregard this notice, and close
the file without saving changes.
